Tree Of Life : A Hindu Perspective

According to Hindu Mythology the divine tree of life also called Kalpavriksha or Kalpatru revealed itself during the 'great churning of oceans of milk' the SamudraManthan.

Like most of mythological descriptions of persons and places, this so called 'churning of oceans',is just a metaphor...a metaphor for churning of human mind and intellect... So, more than elsewhere, this divine tree resides in the hearts and minds of persons who have chosen to understand this ocean of Life currents using their understanding of time.Time is depicted so well in mythology as serpent .Time is because of movement..if serpent doesn't move there is no time. Some may even call it all the time in no time at all !
Hindu mythology  believes in universality of existence...so ,what exists in seeds, body and universe is same..reflected in each other ... underlying the quest of humanity for... holy lands and divine trees which in turn is interpreted by different cultures and religions in their own ways.
In India near Ajmer there are twin trees thought to be about 800 yrs old called by locals as male and female versions of Kalpavriksha visited by thousands of tourists(http://tourism.rajasthan.gov.in/) every year

In some scriptures even the mulberry and coconut trees have been described as this divine tree !
In subsequent additions to this post, I will try to analyse ,how this divine tree or the Kapavriksha is perceived in different cultures and religions.
